Landslide were a dual female/male vocal fronted band from Iowa City that kicked off in 1981. They went through several personnel changes and released two albums in their time, though their first 'Is Hard Rock' from 1987 is pretty rare. Many would say their second release 'Say Hello To The Night' is also rare. You can pick it up on blogspot sites easy enough these days without having to go to expense of finding an expensive copy on Ebay. Musically, they sound quite well produced, lots of synths, keys, moderate guitars, and a mix up of female and male vocals. To me, there's a bit of Idle Tears, Drama and on their lighter moments, perhaps a trace of Cock Robin.

The Songs
Admittedly, most of the album is solid if unspectacular AOR, but when they are on song, the results are outstanding. You'd be hard pressed to convince me that the a track like 'Keep This Feeling Alive' is anything but supreme AOR. It's a superb listen, the chorus is to die for! It reminds me of Michael O'Brien at his best. 'That's The Way I Like It' has definite edges of Heart in the mix, while the title track is very likeable too. I think I much preferred the songs where the male vocal lead was prominent, as they seemed to be more muscular and less wimpy, though in saying that, Anne Davis takes the lead on 'Play To Win' which is also a very good track! So what do I know? lol!

In Summary
During their time, Landslide toured all over the USA, performing upward of 2000 gigs across 42 states. After this album was released, Landslide disbanded. Most of the band still live in Iowa City, in fact, Anne and Tom were married during the heyday of Landslide, and now have two kids. A nice blip on the 1990 landscape, probably not essential in trying to buy a copy (mainly because it would be too expensive), but worth a listen regardless. Seems there was more to Iowa than potatoes and Lynn Allen huh? Kelv, how come you never saw these guys playing at Maxwells?

No comments yet ?!?! I got my copy rather cheap off ebay, probably it's a bootleg, but well done. There is a number of them flying around ebay these days. But this is a really good release, therefore I don't regret it.
