Background
We're at the start of August 2009. Up till now, the island of Malta's claim to fame in the hard rock world, is that it's the birthplace of Krokus lead singer Marc Storace. Well now the small mediterranean island has a new identity to shout out about - and that is the hard rockin' outfit FIRE!! This band have been in operation since before the turn of the millennium, but only recently (through the MySpace portal) have come to the attention of interested parties.. such as us!
These boys smoke in the same style as Gotthard, and are not too dissimilar in musical style to a recent band featured here at GDAZE - Roadfever. Boy, the Swiss connection is very close, uncoincidentally so I might add.
By their own admission, Fire is a no frills rock band which focuses on delivering raw, powerful live performances. The band has been consistently active in the Maltese music scene since 1998, releasing its debut album 'Ignite' in August 2006 to a good reception from the local media. The band followed up this success by gigging with the aforementioned Krokus and by obtaining first place in the 2006 Oktoberfest battle of the bands, as well as by conducting a series of gigs in the UK during the summer of 2007.
Fire is set to release its new album 'Thrill Me'; eleven tracks which see the band delivering a harder, edgier sound whilst retaining the strong melodies that characterised its previous offering. 'Thrill Me' is set for release in July 2009. Watch out for these high-flying Maltese Falcons!

There's actually a really good female fronted pop rock band called Corkscrew who hail from Malta. I have two albums by them. They may have released another since I was last in touch with them.
