Background
Boysvoice were a great German band from Munich who reared their heads out of the late great 80's hard rock scene. Riding on the back of success of countrymen Bonfire and Victory, the band nodded their musical hats in their general direction; in particular the Claus Lessman styled vocals and the chainsaw guitar of both Gruber and Diezel paying homage to the likes of Hans Ziller. Throw in there some Dalton ('Injection' era) influences, albeit without the keyboards, and you're in the firing line.

The Songs
The first couple of tracks are essential German hard rock. 'Different Noises' features some chainsaw grinding HM guitar, but the good thing is - the overriding theme is very melodic. Fascinating to hear their rendition of 'Love Stealer', the Ian Lloyd track, heard elsewhere by artists such as Uriah Heep ('Conquest') and Cliff Richard of all people! Hearing Boysvoice's metal rendition you'd be wondering how Cliff managed to get away with it? In fact, 'Love Stealer' is the album highlight. The heavy groove is evident on 'Munich Nightlife' (an obvious comment referring to life in their home-town on a Friday night!), while the vocoders get a severe working over on the title track! A dopey rap intro precedes 'Bad Boys', before the welcoming guitar grind erases all memory of that prior 40 seconds of nonsense. The band move into acoustic ballad territory with the lovely 'Searching For You', a backdrop of lush keys and soaring guitars brings this track to an exciting crescendo. The 'Blade Runner' effects act as a sonic inducement for 'Take It Or Leave It, those guitars really sticking it to ya! Boysvoice move into super-heavy AOR (if you could it that) with the brazen 'City Of Your Dreams', the chorus in particular is a winner. The Bonfire like 'Chain Reaction' is followed by another album high-point, the immense 'Cold Summer Nights'. All up, a solid, consistent hard rock album all the way through!

In Summary
Boysvoice released their second set in 1993 entitled 'Dirty Talks', but since then, the band have become nothing more than a small chapter in the Encyclopedia of German hard rock/metal, which in turn has become something of an oversized compendium, considering the slew of bands coming out of that part of the world - most of which are very good!! As an aside, this CD for whatever reason has gone for some ridiculous prices on Ebay. A great album admittedly, the fact it contains a couple of killer tracks is probably why it commands a price hike. Along with the debut Roko album, 1990 was a good year for Germany! And oh by the way, as of 2003, they've reformed!
