Background
Admittedly 2008 was a great year for melodic rock, even if the industry didn't have the stats to back up what was a memorable year. We've reviewed a bunch of albums, but strangely, Eclipse's 'Are You Ready To Rock' was not covered. Slap us with a feather duster why don't you.. In fact, a severe kick up the backside is required, as this album is an absolute head-turner in the world of melodic hard rock. From Stockholm, it would be a cliche to say that these guys sound typically Swedish, but unfortunately it's true to a tee. Influences such as Talisman, Ignition and Masquerade wouldn't seem out of place for these boys, and though the content is your usual 'sex drugs and rock n roll, it's the delivery mechanism used that gets our attention. Chuck in a bit of Whitesnake and Blue Murder for good measure and you can say quite definitely that we are indeed 'ready to rock'.

The Songs
The thing about all these songs is that there is (in my opinion) no filler. All make for good listening, and the band don't muck around in la-la land playing ballads either. 41 minutes of fast paced rock guaranteed to chase away the blues. You don't get much respite on brain-chasers such as 'Hometown Calling', 'Hard Time Loving You' and the exceptional John Sykes flavoured 'Call Of The Wild'. When the melody is highly apparent, tracks like 'Breaking My Heart Again', 'Under The Gun' and 'To Mend A Broken Heart' sound slightly lighter but no less effective. Really, the whole album is class..

In Summary
It has to be said, that Erik Martensson's voice is a beautiful mix of Goran Edman, Thomas Vikstrom and David Readman. What a talent. This is the band's third album, with previous releases in 2001 and 2003, though again, the band slipped off our radar even that far back. What were we thinking? Perhaps because they were signed to Z Records was enough to put us off.. hmm.. Anyway, the band have delivered a little beauty with this release. A late addition to my top 10 (oops.. now 11) of 2008.

George is right - this is an excellent album. I just stumbled across it two weeks ago, and it's been in heavy rotation in my MP3 player. Nothing wimpy here - just good ol' hard rock. Erik Martensson does have a great voice, and the production and musicianship are top-notch. Excellent songwriting too. And to me, this is one that starts strong and keeps getting better - the last three songs are probably my favorite. It easily slides into my 2008 top ten, probably top 5.

It is available on iTunes and Rhapsody.

And the title is indeed 'Are You Ready To Rock' (as George stated in the article) rather than 'Get Ready To Rock as it appears at the top. Either way, make sure you're ready to rock!

Strong album indeed but a little 'speedy' for my taste. At any case, I'm so interested in watching them live at next month's Firefest

I did find their second album 'Second To None' on Rhapsody. Upon my only listen so far, it does not compare to this one. Maybe it will grow on me. But this one was very immediate to me.
