Best Of 2008 - 2008 Kelv Hellrazer

BEST OF 2008 - KELV HELLRAZER

Summary
Great year. I got my Lynn Allen outakes back. Thanks Jeff Halliwell...took ya 16 years..

Bands.. H.E.A.T, the future of AOR (Eurovision candidates). I'm gonna ambulance chase here.. ne naw, ne naw.. Re-issues, outstanding from Derek Oliver's Rock Candy Records. He's gone solo, the booklets are incredible. The Godz, Trigger, Teaze, Wireless.. to come. Khalil and Barrie over at Escape Music. More cutting edge as usual, rather than AOR by numbers. Big downer like George says 'internet killing music'.. almost stone dead, but not AOR.

Best of 2008

Guns N Roses - Chinese Democracy
I famously blanked Axl Rose in 1986, pre fame. Hated the band, however this is the best thing they've ever done. Stop being a pre Madonna Axl (its phoney m8 your normal I remember). it has stiffed this lp. Along with people wanting another 'Appetite', bugger that overplayed and boring. 'CD' should have rocketed the music industry.

Marcello Vestry - Marcello Vestry
The best LP Danger Danger never made. Could be redone with Ted on vocals, but it's mind blowing 80s throw back affair, this stuff could be so big. Better than crap like The Darkness.

London - Metal Years
Awesome outtakes. Nadir's amazing live even without lyrics. Yasui's drums make this as well. Now Lizzy Grey's back. Expect mayhem in 2009.

The Bright - In Lucid Dreams
Tami Show meets indie meets pop meets Zep in a dark alley. The sheer gothic AOR elegance of Julie Lange. She needs to replace people in the UK like Sharleen Spiteri(Texas) and Shirley Manson (Garbage). One appearance on the Jonathan Ross Show should pull it off, there plenty of AOR appeal here.

Journey - Revelation
Love Perry and anyone who sounds like him. Journey's like James Bond. Not about the Actor playing him, more about the franchise. This LP reminds me of 707. Schon and Cain are the AOR version of McCartney/Lennon.

H.E.A.T - H.E.A.T
AOR new blood and bloody great, even in the credit crunch this is worth investing in.

Sextus - Stranger Than Fiction
Keeping The Jellyfish flag flying. Great disc. He has the sound down. Should reform Imperial Drag and have a right old powerpop knees up. Look out for his new supergroup Halloween Jack.

Frankie Whyte And The Dead Idols - Hollywood Ending (Mini lp)
Joan Jett meets Nikki Sixx in a sleaze trash alley. Female fronted Maple Leaf melodic pop trash, hints of Kiss, Avril Lavigne, Motley etc.. Hit tunes we got em :Blackout should be kicking Pinks butt..Lookout for them in 2009.

Diemonds - In The Rough
This is a raw as it gets...fronted by the enigmatic Priya Panda..raw, gutsy imagine Smashed Gladys, Hanoi, GNR with a 2000s rawer than hell modern edge. This was the kinda thing that put me on the map in Metal Forces.

Honourable Mentions
Work of Art - Artwork
Perennial AOR ...not by numbers..had this on the deck for ages.

Elevener - When Kaleidoscopes Collide
Great stuff!

Hope - All Of My Days
Khalil - where did you find this? Great Bryan Adams meets Southern Sons I reckon. I should have ambulance chased these guys instead of chasing Mr Turk for my GraveDanger master tape back!

Last Autumns Dream - Dream Catcher
A real euro triumph. 'One By One'.. Erlandsson's voice echoes Trigger's Derek Remington. Way more commercial than expected but chock full of surprises.

New/Old Kids On The Block
Kerry Doll
Jennifer Rose
Steevi Jaimz
Hotleg (featuring Mr Hawkins from The Darkness)
Danter

Reviewing these best of lists again. I forgot that Kelv mentioned Swedish band HOPE, and their great 'All Of My Days' album. i didn't discover this band until well after 2008!
