Best Of 2008 - 2008 Eric

It's been a year like so many filled with highs and lows, but this time around the veterans of the 60's and 70's proved they still have much to offer so here we go, in no particular order my top 10 of 2008.

Eric Abrahamsen

ABC Traffic
'Lexicon of Love' remains one the 80's landmark pop albums, but they never quite matched its artistic success although this 'comeback' disc comes pretty damn close.

Work Of Art - Work Of Art
These Toto influenced Swedes surprised everyone with a quality release and on Frontiers no less.

Keane - Perfect Symmetry
These guys keep getting better and better and with their third studio CD soak in a few early 80's pop influences along the way.

Paul Bevoir In Days Of Wonder
His third release and it's a charmer in the style of Gilbert O'Sullivan and Harry Nilsson. Bevoir was a member of British power pop legends The Jet Set.

Sparks Exotic Creatures Of The Deep
Their 21st (!) studio release, Sparks show no sign of giving in to current trends in an indifferent pop world that could care less.

Brian Wilson - That Lucky Old Sun
Hyped as the next 'Smile' it's not quite that, but still wonderful.

Paul Weller- 22 Dreams
'The Godfather of Mod' returns with a stellar album that reveals new delights with each play. Brilliant!

Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul
Older and wiser, Beatles influenced as always. More please!

Queen + Paul Rodgers The Cosmos Rocks
Better than expected but will the collaboration last or is it already over?

Fireman - Electric Arguments
Producer Youth and Paul McCartney's latest work is a contemporary pop stunner and unbelievably recorded in one day. Axel, are you listening?

Special mention for archival releases and reissues with top spot going to Wounded Bird and their Russia/Force 10 discs which made so many of us happy while The Move 'Anthology 1966-1972' and The Kinks 'Picture Book' box sets made shelling out a few extra dollars for rarities very worthwhile.
