In response to Cyrille Regis, BBC 2 repeat the Adrian Chiles documentary, Whites v Blacks, How Football Changed A Nation, unbelievable true story, worth watching

There is a three-part article coming up for E.L.O (Eldorado, A New World Record and Out Of The Blue). Look out for it soon.

Agreed Reyno about Clyde Best, further back is the story of Walter Tull which is quite heartbreaking, links to Northampton and lived in Rushden.

Big loss is Cyrille, only short time at Wolves, but I was at the Peterborough game where he scored the last minute winner, Cyrille and Laurie C, what a team.

I think many people forget guys like West Ham's Clyde Best whenever the subject of the impact of black footballers in the English game crops up. He was just as good as the West Brom trio years b4

Cyrille was part of the ground breaking so called 'three degrees' who did so much to break down racial barriers in Football back in the late 70's.R.I.P

Background
Yeah, yeah, yeah, horrendous cover art on this baby and trust me the flipside is even worse. I've passed over Get Wet for years just because of the questionable, slightly fey visuals until recently picking the record up for a few cents in a discount bin. With much trepidation, several spins on the trusty turntable and further research on the web, it turns out Get Wet had a lot to offer fans of power pop and an interesting, albeit brief history to boot. Local New Jersey singer Sherri Beachfront hooks up with former Cherry Vanilla (Andy Warhol hanger-on and heavy connections with The Police) keyboardist Zecca Esquibel, the couple fall madly in love and a smitten Zecca beavers away on an album's worth of material dedicated to his new main squeeze. Group name dreamed up while Sherri and Zecca are getting nasty in the sack (of course) and production from legendary knob twiddler Phil Ramone, Get Wet the album didn't do very well on the charts although the duo managed to play in New York's top clubs including The Ritz and Max's Kansas City.

The Songs
Fans of The Motels early albums, Cyndi Lauper, The Go-Go's and Toni Basil will flip over this record. Prime time new wave fun, like the 'Grease' soundtrack updated, fluorescent splashed and frizzed out for the Reagan era. Every track's a pop winner especially the single 'Just So Lonely' that should have been a major hit but wasn't. Following the frantic pace of the excellent 'Morton Street' and 'Which Window' side one slows down for the 50's style ballad 'It's You, It's Me' which is quite the charmer as is side two's 'Where The Boys Are' which follows the same nostalgic musical path. 'New Mod Kings' and 'Turn On Your Lights' are quirky and slightly over the top in that loveable new wave way, although the closing 'Single' succeeds as a lonely in the wee hours ballad, and sounds a little more contemporary, or 1981 to be precise.

In Summary
Not bad, not bad at all and certainly not what I expected. Of course all good things must come to an end with Zecca and Sherri eventually parting ways. Since then not much has been heard from Sherri, but Zecca is still an in demand session player recently seen in reggae rocker Garland Jeffreys band. Get Wet has never been on CD, but LP copies are still easy to find and with cover art like this- hard to miss.
