In response to Cyrille Regis, BBC 2 repeat the Adrian Chiles documentary, Whites v Blacks, How Football Changed A Nation, unbelievable true story, worth watching

Stoke City condemned 2 relegation. Who is the new manager? Paul Lambert.

Agreed Reyno about Clyde Best, further back is the story of Walter Tull which is quite heartbreaking, links to Northampton and lived in Rushden.

Big loss is Cyrille, only short time at Wolves, but I was at the Peterborough game where he scored the last minute winner, Cyrille and Laurie C, what a team.

I think many people forget guys like West Ham's Clyde Best whenever the subject of the impact of black footballers in the English game crops up. He was just as good as the West Brom trio years b4

Cyrille was part of the ground breaking so called 'three degrees' who did so much to break down racial barriers in Football back in the late 70's.R.I.P

Limousine (USA) - 1982 Limousine

ARTIST: Limousine
ALBUM: Limousine
LABEL: Chassis
YEAR: 1982
CD REISSUE: 2007, Retrospect, RR-343 (named 'Roxs U')

LINEUP: Brett Hansen - vocals, guitars * Fletcher Grover - bass, vocals * Jerome Brian - keyboards, vocals * Tommy Julian - drums

TRACK LISTING: 01 Something Came Over Me * 02 Magic Eyes * 03 When You Gave Your Love * 04 More Than Your Fantasies * 05 Put A Little Love Into It * 06 Sometimes Love * 07 For Loves Sake * 08 Not The Same * 09 Catch A Star * 10 Straight From The Heart

Limousine appeared on the horizon back in 1982. From Las Vegas, Nevada, the band are a definite entry on the AOR boardwalk. Their brand of music appealing to fans of Zon and Styx one would suggest, considering main-man Brett Hansen is a deadringer for Dennis De Young at the best of times, plus a smattering of Stryper kingpin Michael Sweet to boot. Being on an independent label, the band aren't going to stun you with a stellar production, but what we do get is pretty good considering the limited resources afforded it. Hansen is the obvious man for the job with Limousine, having written nine out of the ten tracks onboard, plus producing the whole affair (with assistance from Jon Galane, the executive producer). The album has some beaut keyboards throughout, and when the guitars cut up rough, this album comes up trumps.

The Songs
No better way to demonstrate that than to listen to the introductory track 'Something Came Over Me', the urgent fast-paced delivery putting it somewhere left-field of Zon and Leyden Zar. 'Magic Eyes' continues in a similar vein, the vocal/lyrical quality not exactly the best, though the keys and fiery guitars more than make up for it. 'When You Gave Your Love' stutters along initially with plodding keyboard stabs on the intro and verses, but by the time the chorus lands this track takes on a life of its own. Gruff guitars greet us on 'More Than Your Fantasies', the keys adding colour and texture, the guitar solo adding fire. Limousine move into cruise control for the track 'Put A Little Love Into It', a funky track mostly, the synth layers giving it an edge. Side two starts out with 'Sometimes Love', a bouncy happy sounding number, followed by the sharp-edge AOR of 'For Loves Sake', where keyboardist Jerome Brian seems to be having fun cranking up some of the dials on his synth! Limousine move into ballad territory with the acoustic ballad 'Not The Same' though it does perk up on the solo section. Probably the album highlight is 'Catch A Star', the mid-paced arrangement a suitable vehicle (every pun intended) for the band to showcase their particular style. Ending the album is the Zon like affair of 'Straight From The Heart', the tasty keyboard solo finishing off things with aplomb!

In Summary
Limousine is a very good album, but perhaps not the OTT pomp album that some have afforded it by way of reputation, but good nonetheless. Life after Limousine saw Brett Hansen move on to form AORsters Fingerprint, who released a 5-track mini LP called 'On File' during 1984. This 5-tracker also includes an alternate version of 'Catch A Star', so that little rarity might prove difficult tracking down.. who knows.. Hansen also turned up to play on the 1995 release of Polish singer Marek Troka (who was based in Las Vegas at the time), going under the unimaginative handle of Troka.. believe it or not.

Just as an aside, the album is rebadged as 'Roxs U', also with a different cover. But essentially it is the same track listing as that from the original 1982 release.

I enjoyed this album, but Hansen's Fingerprint were much better.

Recently scored a nice vinyl copy of this private press gem and it came with band autographs on the back cover, which were strategically positioned to not inhibit the artwork. Anyway, with the limited production quality aside, this is a stellar AOR outing. Lot's of keyboards and inventive arrangements. Highly Recommended for any private press AOR obscurity collector!

I recently saw that Troka album on a fileshare listing recently. Should grab it before it disappears.
