Well this is where it all started for Canadian favourite Stan Meissner. His very first album for A&M, and recognition of his work out in the public domain. Prior to this though, Stan was a contracted label songwriter in the making working for A&M. Much of his material was pitched to other artists. In 1982 however, A&M asked Stan if he would like to record his own material, the answer was obvious. Therefore, much of 1983 was spent working on the debut album, to be known as 'Dangerous Games'. What is a feature of Stan's output is the clear production/mix that he has been able to achieve. As a result, he has acquired a reputation as a top-line musician in melodic rock circles, and is the envy of many within the genre.

The Songs
You know you are on to something when you hear music that is a combination of catchy tunes and simplistic structures. Meissner has discovered that recipe early on. Guitar melodies abound on this record, and you'll find many songs to discover. Whether it be the surging hard rock of 'Can't Let Go' or the pure AOR found on 'No Turning Back', moments like this are hard to ignore. Ballads are another Meissner speciality. Check out tunes like 'Walk Out Of My Life' or the atmospheric 'Walking In The Dark'. Don't worry, you won't become an insomniac listening to that track.

In Summary
'Dangerous Games' received a CD re-issue in 1995 on the defunct Long Islands Records label, along with 1986's 'Windows To Light'. The packaging itself was tremendous, and it was a limited edition copy. Meissner did not disappear completely from sight, reappearing every so often, as with 1992's 'Undertow' and 1999's 'Metropolis'. At the time of writing this artilce (early 2006), it seems our seven year window has now opened. So perhaps it is time once again for Stan to deliver more melodic mayhem to the masses. Over to you Stan..
