Blue Major (Norway) - 2001 Band Interview
INTERVIEW: Blue Major (May 2001)
Introducing Norways Blue Major.

This is the 'In The Spotlight' page. In Norway, people know Blue Major (BM) as a band playing live around the country. In the autumn of 2000, their first EP 'It's Gonna Be Me' was released. One of the songs from this EP; 'My Little Girl', was the number one hit at Freetrax, Scandinavia, for about three weeks. Blue Major is made up of five guys: Lasse (vocals, acoustic guitars), Bjoernar (guitars, background vocals), Tom (synthesizers, background vocals), Roar (bass), and Kenneth (drums, background vocals). HEART of the ROCK briefly caught up with the guys.

Tell us a little about your music?
Well, our EP sounded a bit inspired of the eighties, but by using another producer, weve got more of a special new sound. Weve started experimenting more with loops and guitar sounds. This, among other things, gives our sound a new expression, and points out our direction the next years.

Have any artists or bands inspired you?
No, not in particular, but bands that use a lot of choir in their choruses, like the Eagles for example. Besides that, weve listened to many different categories of bands/artists like Toto, Mezzoforte, Gary Moore plus many, many more. BM are five guys who all like different music. The result of which is what you hear...

Is it easy reaching out to the world as an Norwegian artist?
No, we can't say that. Norway is a small country, and especially when it comes to the exportation of it's music, but in the last few years Norway has presented artists as: A-ha, Lene Marlin, Briskeby, Espen Lind, D`sound, among others, who probably has opened several doors outside Norway. The biggest problem are the Norwegian record companies resources when it comes to promoting in other countries. That's why our doors are open for international record companies as well as Norwegian.

Who writes your songs?
Lasse writes the lyrics, which is about things we`ve experienced, people we know, actual things happening in the society, etc... Bjoernar or Tom comes up with ideas for the music, then we all take it from there, coming with inputs untill we have something presentable so that we can take it to studio and finish it.

What are the bands immediate future plans?
At the end of this month (June) we're going to a studio, to record some new stuff. Some of this will end up on the internet. After that well keep on writing and playing. Last but not least we are going to work hard to make a new album for our growing audience to hear!
