Background
Well then.. considering the history of where these guys come from, you would think that pedigree would count for something. Not so in this case. Consider this then: Erlandsson - solo artist in his own right; Malecek - ex Fair Warning, Jacob - Talisman, Yngwie Malmsteen, Thomas Lassar - Crystal Blue, and Borger - ex Treat. So all in all, we should get something fairly useful right? Err no. It seems this disc is being widely panned. The debut on the other hand, released last year, is pretty good by all accounts, not having heard it myself. However, having heard this second effort, both in the car and on my stereo, I too come away unconvinced. Only just mind you - the album not the complete write-off that people are making it out to be.

The Songs
To be honest, I am not a fan of Erlandsson's vocal style. He is a great singer, but he just doesn't do it for me. I prefer power, and in this case, he veers too close to Davinci's Lars Aas, but not as classy. There are some good ideas here, the first two tracks get us off to a good start. 'Brand New Life' captures the essence of what Last Autumns Dream are all about. 'Lost In You' features some ambient (and at times trance-like) keyboards from Lassar. Good stuff. The Zeno cover of 'Heat Of Emotion' probably should've been best left alone I reckon. Not a touch on the original. 'Helpless' drifts into Dreamtide territory, the Germanic touches familiar to fans of Helge Engelke. This is good. 'Over And Out' ain't bad either, the song shakes and rattles closely to the sound previously heard with Matti Alfonzetti's recent work. Of a similar nature is the tune 'Round And Round'.

In Summary
Of the rest, my interest wanes quite a bit. So much more could have been made of this colloboration but the end result certainly doesn't justify the pedigree. I think the record label should carry the can for letting this album slide. Certainly it could've been done better, and that in a nutshell is one reason why the melodic rock scene is sliding away into oblivion. Is it too late?
