OK, all the YouTube videos are working again. Just use the YT link, and then encase in tags [ youtube] at the start, [/ youtube] at the end. Cool. Thumbs Up

Slow week for me, it's been all horse racing in Australia this week, with the Melbourne Cup meeting over four days. Back to GDM on the weekend.

Sandalinas - 2005 Living On The Edge

Apollo Papathanasio - vocals
Jordi Sandalinas - guitars
Victor Casado - guitars
Fran Duarte - bass
Daniel Moilanen - drums

Sandalinas are newcomers to the scene. Formed around the talented Spaniard Jordi Sandalinas, the band itself take on a continental European flavour, with Swedish vocalist Apollo Papathanasio, and fellow countryman drummer Daniel Moilanen. Not only that, but Andy LaRocque from Danish metal merchant King Diamond handles the production chores. Despite kicking off in 2000, Sandalinas has only come together recently, and the results are stunning to stay the least. Razor sharp, and an amalgam of all styles of rock/metal that we all know and love. Best comparisons would include Pink Cream 69 and Millenium.. and bands of that ilk. As a result, it will appeal to those into everything from power metal all the way through to AOR.

The Songs
Without doubt the album is hard-hitting from the start. The title track leads off impressively. Edgy guitarwork amid a rampant rhythm section. Think Pink Cream 69 at their best, and this is what you get. 'The Conqueror' as the title would suggest, powers its way through precedings. No prisoners here. 'If It Wasn't For You' starts out with some Bonfire approved guitar runs, the overall song churns away as if the 80's was here yesterday. Definitely one for fans of bands like the aforementioned Bonfire or Victory. Slowing things up a bit is the piano filled ballad 'The Day The Earth Died'. A contrast yes, and one that was needed on an album like this. It is complimented by the equally laid back 'Heaven In You', but thankfully their true colours are shown on the rampant 'Back In Time'. Superb stuff. And to round it out, we get the delicious acoustic/electric 'Die Hard'. Think unplugged Gotthard, and this is what it sounds like.

In Summary
Apart from the guitar talent of Jordi, the other ace-in-the-hole is singer Apollo. This guy is in the same league as David Readman and Jorn Lande. A tough voice who can match it for power and energy. Sandalinas are certain to be right up there among rookies of the year. Look for Sandalinas now. Worthy of an inspection and an investment.
