Bruce Gaitsch is one of those guitarists who just seems to be everywhere. He's popped up all over the place - too numerous to mention. What is apparent though, is he can run the gamut of musical styles, whether hard out rock, West Coast, or jazz and acoustic styles, but I suspect he's more at home on the cruisier side of Melodic Rock Boulevard. This collection of tracks spans a timeframe from 1989 through to 2001 - so it's expansive, perhaps too much so.

The Songs
One of the highlights is the track 'Haunt Me Tonight', the track best remembered on the Radioactive album 'Ceremony Of Innocence'. This version however features the vocals of AOR god Richard Marx, and a good version it is too, though personally I love the Radioactive version better. Bill Champlin's raunchy workout on the Toto flavoured back-beat of 'Aphasia' is energetic, while the jazz rock flavoured 'The African Prince' is very hip, urban, and dare-I-say-it, street-wise. The guitar solos add some spice to the mix. Bruce's wife Janey Clewer sings on a few tracks, the best being the delicate 'That's When I Fell', and the near ethereal 'Give Love A Try', where Bruce stylises in the best George Benson/Larry Carlton tradition. The other tracks are an assortment of instrumental pieces which showcase the various styles Bruce dabbles in.

In Summary
A talented guitarist without question, but the compilation like selection of tracks onboard here gives it an inconsistent feel and flow. Notwithstanding that slight bit of pickiness, some lovely tracks onboard, but don't expect over the top AOR. One for all the West Coast/fusion fans out there.
