Agreed Reyno about Clyde Best, further back is the story of Walter Tull which is quite heartbreaking, links to Northampton and lived in Rushden.

Big loss is Cyrille, only short time at Wolves, but I was at the Peterborough game where he scored the last minute winner, Cyrille and Laurie C, what a team.

I think many people forget guys like West Ham's Clyde Best whenever the subject of the impact of black footballers in the English game crops up. He was just as good as the West Brom trio years b4

Cyrille was part of the ground breaking so called 'three degrees' who did so much to break down racial barriers in Football back in the late 70's.R.I.P

91 Suite - 2002 91 Suite

91 SUITE - 91 SUITE (2002, VINNY RECORDS)
Jesus Espin - vocals
Ivan Gonzalez - guitars, vocals
Paco Cerezo Sanmartin - guitars, vocals
Dani Morata - keyboards, vocals
Mario Martinez - drums, percussion

Background
The new Spanish inquisition is thankfully a less gory and violent affair from millennia past. The new inquisition is instead, celebrating the glory of melodic rock and AOR in it's finest form - and it don't come better than this. While Golden Farm are somewhere near the peak, these five guys have clambered over the top and without hesitation, can claim the crown of best melodic rock band from Spain. In fact, so American sounding are they, it's hard not to imagine them originating from L.A or New York. Talking of New York, if my ears weren't deceiving me, I'd swear this was Valentine all over again. Jesus Espin has so much of Hugo's vocal mannerisms it's uncanny. Mix it up with a young Jon Bon Jovi and you have a future star. The New York connection continued; the production and mixing work was undertaken by Drive She Said's Mark Mangold. The end result has the air of class normally associated with big-label artists.

The Songs
Opening with the essential melodic rock of 'The Day She Left' - with it's fast guitar strum and tinkling keyboard lines. A great way to introduce themselves. 'Down To You' follows in subdued fashion, but the chorus is one that is so memorable. The Hugo like harmonies of 'Time To Say Goodbye' are smooth, and it's followed by the ballad 'Lost In The Silence', which is an absolute killer, and goes close to pushing Grand Illusion's 'Between Dark And Dawn' as the ballad of the year. 'Hard Rain' is (as the title suggests), a harder song, but is softened in places by tender piano arrangements on the verses. 'Give Me The Night' could be Valentine ten years late, while the magical 'I Will Stand By You' with it's cascading keyboard work is very ear-friendly. The closer 'Answer To My Prayers' is a guitar-solo instrumental. If you're a fan of Neal Schon's 'Late Nite' or Tommy Denander's work, this is for you. Sublime all round.

In Summary
Not many bands are playing this pure style of AOR anymore, and only handful can come to the quality these young guys create. One of the few standout albums of 2002 so far - the other contenders (such as Harem Scarem, Winter Parade, Grand Illusion) you can count on one hand. 91 Suite without doubt, add themselves to the new breed of melodic rock/AOR stars that all fans should now be supporting in the new millennium.
