Background
What happens when you combine bands like Styx, Kansas and Boston all into the same melting pot? You end up with Sugarcreek, the pride and joy of Charlotte North Carolina.. long before the Hornets showed up as a Basketball Club. These guys go way back into time, long before some of you were born I'm sure. According to the bio (written by writing colleague Willy Vanbuel), by natural selection and attrition Rick Lee became the catalyst or foundation member, after the band he was in migrated to Sugarcreek. All during the seventies, personnel came and went, but by 1980, the band had finally settled on the above lineup. Tim Clark a Kentucky resident, was co-opted into the band, and so commenced the most productive phase of their career. In vocalist Tim Clark, they have a guy who can belt it out. An amalgam of Kansas member Steve Walsh and White Heart's Rick Florian, and indelibly melodic. The keyboard work of Lee is another highlight, and all through the years he has remained the one constant in the band. Through all the highs and lows, Sugarcreek have had a colourful history, and how best to celebrate their career with a 3CD Remastered set of 'Live At The Roxy' (1981), the fantastic 'Fortune' (1982), and 'Rock The Night Away' from 1984. Congratulations go to Khalil and Barrie at Escape Music for getting this out into the public arena. The quality is superb, and the packaging? Absolute top notch. Was it worth the wait? You betcha!

In Summary
Now, I won't go into too much detail on all three albums in this particular review. GDAZE will be reviewing each Sugarcreek album in detail on separate articles, so watch out for those over the coming weeks. We aim to get at least 6 of their albums online before the end of the year.. as a tribute and celebration to a legendary band in AOR circles.. Sugarcreek. There is only one decision you need to make regarding this 3CD set: get online to your nearest CD stockist of AOR goodies and order your Christmas present early.
