Nitefire - 1984 Nitefire [EP]

ARTIST: Nitefire
ALBUM: Nitefire (EP)
LABEL: Future Records
YEAR: 1984

LINEUP: Chris Ameruoso - vocals, lead guitars * Martin Ameruoso - guitars, keyboards * Vito Ameruoso - bass, vocals * Frank Ameruoso - drums, vocals

TRACK LISTING: 01 Smokey Eyes * 02 Give It A Chance * 03 House Will Rock * 04 Foolish Game

Wind the clock back to 1984, and take a listen to a small-time band from Long Island New York. Nitefire are based around a set of four brothers, who have taken Bon Jovi, Surgin and Zebra to heart by the sounds of things.

The Songs
Leading off with 'Smokey Eyes', the opening keyboard lines have a bit of Bon Jovi about them. Some would say they have stolen them from BJ's 'Runaway'.. lol. The vocals from Chris Ameruoso take a bit of getting used to. He operates in the upper stratosphere, the likes of where the likes of Zebra's Randy Jackson live. I didn't think too much of 'Give It A Chance', the structure is all over the place. 'House Will Rock' again has some Bob Jovi-isms while the final track on this brief sampler 'Foolish Game' is a fun-time party rock excursion - not particularly memorable I'm afraid.

In Summary
An EP was all that could be mustered from the Ameruoso brothers. Would've been interesting to know how things panned out if they had a big label and production behind them. But that was not to be. The brothers also had an incarnation as the band Cry, which also looked as if it was going to produce an LP, but again, nothing eventuated. Since then, the brothers have dropped out of sight, though if music runs through the veins of this musical family quartet, you can assured that they are out there somewhere making some noise.. still..

Chris seems to be making a good living taking photo's of famous peoples pets!

Search for his name on google and you will get his website. I e-mailed him a couple of years ago to confirm he was the same guy from Nitefire, which he kindly did and was surprised that people are still listening to his music. I was trying to get a response to see if Cry actually released an album, but got no second reply back. I have a 12 inch single of CRY - tell me lies, which is a good tune, its mentioned to be from forthcoming lp - NO TEARS. The 12 inch featured all the brothers, released on TOP NOTCH records, 3 versions of the tune. Also included a flyer dated 1988.

You may have better luck than me to try to establish any further info!

Here are some notes sent to us by Vito Ameruoso.

Hey Glorydaze,

This is Vito Ameruoso of the Rock band Cry, back from the dead as we put it, I'll help clear up some of the info. you guys are looking for. All of what you have and seen, did happen and we did go on to become Cry, but after Cry we went on to just using our own biological last name 'Ameruoso' again strongly suggested by the record company. We all rocked on well into the 90's and had Gotten lucky with getting top notch management at this point, we were with the Billy Joel management group, yes we were in great shape then, having a # 19 hit on the charts with ' Don't Tell Me Lies' released in the U.K. the band took off like a bullet. At the time we were on tour with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, with Joan being one notch above us at #18 on the rock charts in the UK. The record was an ep with only one song on it with a club version on the flip side.

The distribution co. was import records of the UK and was responsable for all the good that came our way, the record had sold gold by receipt before it even hit the streets and well surpased the gold status shortly! with MTV video rotation high the group was well on its way to the top! You see most people didn't know what became of this great band because of management trade offs and name changes, it kind of hurt us in these high times, but we still perservered. We had done many prestigious things, perform at the NY music awards, rocked the USS Intrepid in NY 's Harbor for the Fleet week with Debbie Gibson and friends, were on many talk shows even good Old Joe Franklin show himself! Rocked in concerts with John Waite, Kari Weher, The Fat Boys, Aldo Nova, Eddie Van Halen just to name some of the old groups. Life was great! that was until all of the rock dynasty started to come crashing down in the 90's. We got put out to pasture with all the other great rockers.

Movin on, Chris, now is a big Producer in Hollywood as well as a world renound Photographer with two best seller books as well as the Ozzy Ozborne Family book. Chris was the official Phtographer on site comissioned to do the 911 resucue dogs that saved and found family members. He has tv shows on comcast on demand as well as a movie deal upcoming! He does very well and is Highly respected by the celebrities, including one of his music buddies Slash.

I myself have stayed in music all the years after, and now have a Rock Duo called Sudden Impact, recording and performing all the hits form the 60's, 70's 80's and today, I am making a new success for myself and have been in my own studio for a year now recording and rehearsing all the great songs we grew up with, including our own. The reviews have been overwellmingly great! and we are well recieved by everyone who rocks with us! Lookout for the website comming soon!

I have been in some kind of discussions with Chris and Frank of Cry, for a reunion and possible re-release of the band, and hope to get life with this great Band back on track and with the hope of joining our rock Bros for the next rebirth of that great 80's era. For now the bands old MTV video titled 'Give Me The Love ' is on you tube! this was produced by Brian Bowie of Propaganda Films, of Madona's Truth or Dare & the filmmaker of the movie Shindlers List! We are all very honored to have worked with two great people back in the day and hope they are all well in health today!

As for me, well who knows, I'm already started on the next half of my life and with rock music on my side wherever the new journey takes me I'm ok with! All I know is you all best look out for the Ameruoso Bros. Band, cause no matter what the name, we're comin to give you some kick Ass Rock n Roll, once again!
