Background
Australia has not been known for producing female artists in the AOR or melodic rock capacity. You can really only cast a few names out there; such as Cheetah, featuring the Hammond sisters, Wendy And The Rockets, Sharon O'Neill, Stephanie Howell, Tina Arena and the woman featured here - Lisa Bade. Lisa, positioned by her management as a credible candidate in the Pat Benatar soundalike stakes, released just this single album 'Suspicion', after working with the likes of Mark Gillespie Band as a backup singer. Not content with seeing this effort confined to Australian studios, Lisa shuttled up to Los Angeles to record the album, with a host of top session players in tow. Despite this, 'Suspicion' is not really an AOR album, though it does feature a ton of personnel best known within that genre.

The Songs
The likeable 'No Way To Treat A Lady' opens up her account, but she sounds much better when the going gets a bit tougher, as on 'When Things Go Wrong'. When Lisa starts singing about 'Jersey Girls', you're left wondering why she wasn't singing about her 'homies' closer to home, like 'Bondi Girls' instead. Vocally it's pretty coarse a la Joanna Dean, in an R&B, with a ton of 'Sha-na-na's in the chorus. 'Pile Up On The Highway' has a slightly new-wave/rock approach. Apparently, some guy has used the song to accompany a YouTube video clip of car crashes! Not sure if Lisa intended it that way.. lol! 'Shakin' All Over' is nothing more than a tedious barroom boogie workout, while the title track features a strong Toto lineup and heads off in a Amy Holland direction. A victim of the 80's, 'Murder At Midnight' would sound rather dated by todays comparison. Rounding out the album are two reasonable sounding rockers 'You're The Weight' and 'Losin' Feelin' while a not so good ballad 'Willow' is the proverbial tail-ender.

In Summary
Bade's vocals will take a bit of getting used to admittedly. She has a Joplin-esque warble but lacks the power and control to make it sound convincing unfortunately. Later that year, Lisa and her backing band supported Little River Band on a tour throughout Australia. The following year she was a backing vocalist for James Reyne and his band Australian Crawl. Though Lisa released a handful of other material (singles etc) in later years, she did not release another album. The album has not received a re-release on CD either. Since then, Lisa has reappeared with the Mark Gillespie Band, Pink Cadillac and formed her own cover band Love Stars.
