Background
When we consider the discography of former Canadian metal queen Lee Aaron, we often overlook her 1989 album 'Bodyrock'. Really, this is one of the better hair-metal albums of that year, with a bunch of fun, infectious tunes. There are also a few fun videos made for the album - all in all a good wind-back to 1989 with all its excesses! Ex Wrabit guitar maestro is still there shooting the six strings while a lot of the rhythm work is handled by Scott Humphrey.

The Songs
During this era, 'fun' in rock invoked all sorts of visual antics. Party rock from the likes of Dave Lee Roth at one end of the spectrum to Poison at the other end took the focus away from the music and onto the image. 'Bodyrock' keeps true to the party-anthemic style of rock without being too cheesy (some of you will disagree!). Yep, there's a load of Dep Lepp'isms plus the obligatory Jovi-ism, but this is where rock was at in 1989. 'Tough Girls Don't Cry' perhaps sung with a male vocal could be Bob Jovi circa 'Slippery When Wet', as could 'Rock The Hard Way'. Overall though, fun time rockers are populated throughout the disc. 'Nasty Boyz', 'Gotta Thing For You' and the excellent 'Whatcha Do To My Body' are good examples of this style. The two stand out tracks for me include the bouncy infection of 'Hands On' and the killer emotive power ballad 'How Deep' - one of the best songs of her career. Lee even throws in the Montrose cover 'Rock Candy' for good measure.. hot sweet and sticky indeed!

In Summary
'Bodyrock' isn't perhaps a 'classic' as her 1987 self-titled release, but the fact that this album contains two killer tracks of Aaron's entire discography, ensures that it sits pretty close behind in the popularity stakes. She would return for 1991's 'Some Girls Do' - the last of her metal/rock albums. Lee as some of you will know, is now living out in Western Canada with husband John Cody and their two kids, and is now working exclusively in the jazz/vocal field - with great results.

The three albums "Lee Aaron", "BodyrocK" and "Some Girls Do", are my favorite of her catalog. This is my favorite of the three. To me, it starts off OK and then gets pretty dang awesome starting with "Tough Girls Don't Cry" through the end. She has great videos too for "Whatcha Do To My Body" and "Hands On". I can take these three albums and put together one pretty killer 12-track (or so) album.

I think I'm the only one in the world who actually liked the 2 Precious outfit she was in towards the end of the 90s.
