Background
My goodness, do you think the record company was trying to sell Lisa Hartman or sex? As if we already don't know the answer to that! Check out that blue lingerie on the back cover, which by a strange twist of fate became the front cover for the later repackaged self-titled version of the LP. Oh well, all in good fun and we certainly can't fault Ms. Hartman for her choice of attire or taste in music since there is some pretty good pop rock and AOR to found on what I believe was her third solo album. Never heard her first two and her fourth 'Til My Heart Stops' now goes for silly money on eBay for reasons I can't understand, since I don't think it was that good or at least not as good as 'Letterock'.

The Songs
Let's be clear, this is very derivative AOR. Nothing new or groundbreaking and playing it extremely safe. Her cover of Bryan Adams 'Hidin' from Love' is choice and could anyone go wrong with this song really? Hartman's voice is good with a slight country twang on tracks like 'Two To Do' although the emphasis is on pop and if you want comparisons, just pick out any female fronted band from the same period. From Toronto and Quarterflash to Shot In The Dark and Tane Cain, it's all here and if the cover of Spider's 'New Romance (It's A Mystery)' isn't enough to convince you to seek out a copy of Letterock', well I really don't know what will?

In Summary
At the time of this records release, Lisa Hartman was a big-time soap opera star and the promotion behind 'Letterock' capitalized on this, although I don't think the album did as well as expected, hence the later issue. In the years since her last album, Hartman married Country artist Clint Black and has been out of the spotlight, with only occasional appearances on television.
