An 'at times' mesmerising blend of commercial pop and atmospheric arrangements. All coming together under the umbrella of this Welsh chanteuse, who can be 'will o' the wisp' one moment, and forthright the next. Take ample doses of Enya, Iona, then combine it with pop heroine Cyndi Lauper, and you've got Donna Lewis. Classically trained as a pianist, she undertook solo performances throughout the UK, before coming to the attention of Atlantic Records chairman Doug Morris, who offered her a record deal there and then..

The Songs
It resulted in her debut album 'Now In A Minute', which shot her to prominence, and of course she's best remembered for her worldwide hit 'I Love You - Always Forever', a captivating pop tune if ever there was one. Not to say that the album is a 'one-hit' wonder.. far from it. Take a listen to the AOR of 'Fools Paradise'.. that exquisitely beautiful but simple chorus is to die for! Combine this with magical ethereal moments such as 'Agenais', 'Simone' .. and you have a well rounded album, and considering this is her debut, that's impressive stuff. A track which borders on AOR is 'Love And Affection', while 'Without Love' and 'Nothing Ever Changes' keep the pop backbeat going strong.

In Summary
A couple of quieter moments 'Lights Of Life' and 'Silent World' are piano based affairs, which perhaps give one an inkling as to her future direction, as her follow-up album 'Blue Planet' released two years later confirms this style, while still retaining the atmospherics and lushness. Her latest album 'Be Still' has taken a step further by going totally acoustic. An ambitious approach from a talented lady. Oh yeah, check out the website.. quite cool..

Dug this album out the other day, a really good listen. It's easy to forget what lies in the dark recesses of the old collection. I've got the follow up 'Blue Planet' which if memory serves is equally as good.

Donna has released a ton of albums since this one. I've just been to her website, and she has a brand new album out as well, by the looks of it.
