She might be known as Nancy Boyd in her stage-name (real name Nancy Bruinooge), but this Belgian birdie, like many crossover pop/rock female artists out of Europe, found herself the owner of a rock oriented album at one point in her career! Nancy came to prominence in 1987 with the album 'Let's Hang On' which by all appearances, was a collection of rehashed hits fron the 50's and 60's. Looking like a souped up 60's version of Cher in 1987, it was amazing that in three years following, she gravitated to a nice/mild form of rock with a vixen image a la Ann Wilson and Lisa Hartman. The material on this 6 track EP 'Stay' is equivalent to Dutch outfit Angela And The Rude, though without the racy guitars and keyboards.

The Songs
The EP was released on a small Dutch label BR Music, which specialises in golden oldies style music. Obviously, judging from the 1987 album 'Lets Hang On' that might very well have been the case. Seems the label got caught holding the baby and the bathwater for 'Stay' - probably not a good fit for their label, but hey, I don't think our Nancy was complaining. I also see the CD was released on Jaws Records - so not sure of the original release. The best tracks here are the opening pair. I wonder if this because George Kooymans from Golden Earring was responsible for arranging and producing these two tracks? 'Just A Little Bit Of Peace In My Heart' (which I think is an old Golden Earring track) moves in similar vein to Swedish hottie Erika and the aforementioned Angela And The Rude, the solo spots are definitely played in the spirit of AOR! The title track 'Stay', is inclusive of great choruses and excellent guitarwork - nice track. Track three 'Could It Be Possible' is a schmaltzy duet with a chap called Rene Shuman, while 'Making Love Out Of Nothing At All' is a cover of the Air Supply staple, and while she's no Russell Hitchcock, the arrangement is ok, the guitarwork is very AOR! 'Can't Trust Myself' is a hi-tech funk workout, while 'Sooner Or Later' is dance oriented a la Pet Shop Boys meets the Pointer Sisters. Umm yeah..

In Summary
Overall, an interesting selection of songs. Would have loved to have heard an entire album (let alone an EP) of material in the vein of the opening pair. To be honest, I reviewed this more on the strength of her album cover. I can never turn down a red-haired hottie!! lol!
