Background
In the past there have been bands with a gimmick. The likes of Kiss with their make-up. Alice Cooper and his horror show. Lakehurst have come up with a new one, though. Stripping!! Yes, you read it right. The male readers might think it's cool since Lakehurst have a female singer. Sorry guys, it's the male members who lose their trousers. It's all part of Lakehurst's live show, which includes the stripping, a pyro and fire show, and also a perfectly improvised dance show. Probably not a bad night out. Lakehurst seem to have been around awhile, and I wish I could tell you more about them but the lengthy bio on their homepage is entirely in German. From the brief press statement that came with the cd the band play live regularly, around thirty live shows per year. That's pretty good actually as Lakehurst deliver keyboard driven melodic rock. Live they mix originals with covers, but their self titled cd from 2000 is entirely their own work.

The Songs
There are some nice tracks but all-in-all I found the performance workman-like. 'I Can't Stop' is a good rocker, and 'Face To Face' is an above average sing-along track. Most of the songs are ballads or mid-tempo rock tracks and the album is really screaming for a couple of tracks that stand out from the crowd. The band puts in a good performance but they'll need to increase the quality if they want to move forward.

In Summary
Along with their 2000 album the band sent their 'So Sexy' demo from 2001 featuring covers and 1 original. The covers, including Michael Jackson, The Eurythmics and Falco are all quite good. However, the major surprise was the original. As mentioned I felt they needed to step up and on 'Stay' it is clear that they have made great strides in their song writing. The demo was recorded at Robert Kohlmeyer's Roko Soundstudio. Perhaps their association with Mr Kohlmeyer has paid off. If this is the direction they are headed Lakehurst may have a healthy future and it will be interesting to see how it develops.
