Background
Here's another band in the queue waiting to break out of the burgeoning Spanish melodic rock scene. Hot on the heels of bands such as Rafa Martin, La Fase, Elyte, Seven Ltd, and more recently the impressive 91 Suite, come Nexx. From Madrid, this outfit are showing considerable promise, and have all the necessary tools to get in there and release a great studio album. In the meantime, we can sit back and listen to Nexx's recent five track promo CD, which gives us a taster of things to come. Though the CD was self produced and on a limited budget, there is enough here to suggest that the move into a full professional studio environment will come very easy. They've certainly moved on from those MP3's of cover songs previously available on their site. The material featured here is so so much better!

The Songs
Onto the songs. The intro for the opener 'Get Fire' is stunning, with soaring majestic keyboard layers, followed by some equally dramatic guitar riffing. It finally settles into a hard rocking song which has a lot of stylish similarities with fellow Spaniards Seven Ltd. 'Consciously' is a mid-tempo track, which has all the hallmarks of UK band Dante Fox, particularly Patricia's vocals being compared to DF's Sue Willets. 'One More Day' is the true ballad of these five tracks, and demonstrates Patricia's command of the vocal instrument, over the top of a superb piano arrangement. 'After The Storm' is a melodic belter, with lovely keyboards moving in the same direction as a smoother 1st Avenue. It's followed by the equally impressive 'Time To Fly', another full blown melodic rock offering, for which air keyboardists will be suitably impressed by Fran Rodriguez's ivory tinkering. For five tracks, this is great stuff.

In Summary
In guitarist Bernardo Llobrgeat they've certainly got a talented six-string bender, while the focal point, singer Patricia Tapia, can certainly belt out songs with power as well as provide the subtle grace required on ballads. The band are reasonably busy. What with recent appearances at 2001 Nemelrock, The 'Gods of AOR' gig in Nov 2001, plus support for Elyte and Mitch Malloy, Nexx look assured of bigger and better things to come. For any talent scouts out there, you'd better start practicing your Spanish, and get your bookings in early for air tickets to Madrid to meet these good folk.
