DIO - Holy Diver ?, even Last In Line ?

Maybe no Diving For Pearls as it was released at the end of the 80's, (1989), although it still would have made mine!

A few surprise omissions from this list for me. I would've thought the following albums may have been a bit more prominent:

Whitesnake - 1987
Def Leppard - Hysteria
Diving For Pearls (considering Kerrang rated it very highly)
The Rods
Journey - Frontiers
Uriah Heep - Abominog
Thin Lizzy - Thunder And Lightning
Asia - Asia
Icon - Night Of The Crime

..among others..

Surprising to see Kansas' 'Power' in the list. Seems a huge contrast compared to the others listed.

Surprised is an understatement! Surprised and upsetting when there is some AOR acts listed. RPM, WRABIT, ASIA ...I'll shut upconfused

I'm surprised Aldo Nova's debut or Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet or no Night Ranger make any of the lists. Nice to see that White Sister made some of the lists. Night Ranger in my opinion had the best string of albums by any band in the 80's.

No Riots Fire Down Under. This was for me the mother of all metal albums. I know Bernard was a huge Riot fan.

Ooops. Sweet's 'A Cut Above The Rest' was released in 1979.
#7 | gdazegod on December 10 2007 16:55:35
Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' also came out in 1979 too.
#8 | dangerzone on December 11 2007 00:13:27
Making a list of the 20 best of the 80's is next to impossible. Mine would be about 1000 long.
#9 | gdazegod on December 11 2007 00:25:16
I wonder if some of these writers regret some of their choices some 17 years later! I mean: Suicidal Tendencies, Coroner and Anthrax. Come on! What gives? helpless
#10 | Eric on December 11 2007 01:20:25
I agree with Alun here, there are just way too many albums to consider from this decade, but then again my list would probably include pop albums like XTC's 'Skylarking' which was just a great record. I would also include ELO's 'Time' and The Moody Blues 'Long Distance Voyager' among Toto's fourth and the usual AOR/hard rock suspects.
#11 | dangerzone on December 12 2007 01:55:33
To be honest George there's far worse choices in there than Anthrax or Suicidal, who both made some classics in the 80's. 'Spreading The Disease' is one of the best of its kind to this day. Still, Sword, Destruction and Artillery are crap, the latter pair some of the dullest thrash you'll ever hear.
#12 | Dance Nation on March 09 2008 09:25:59
I've never been able to understand ANYONE who thinks Giuffria's 'Silk and Steel' is better than their FLAWLESS debutrolleyes!

Also, for me, the best Queensryche album BAR NONE is 'Rage For Order'. Mindcrime was just something that spewed out in the powerful wake 'Rage...' left (controversial opinion I realisetongue).
#13 | gdazegod on March 09 2008 19:10:15
DN, I agree entirely about 'Rage For Order'. Superb release.Thumbs Up

Good to see Kansas getting multiple mentions with the excellent Power album here, but some of the other choices are pretty bizarre
