HAZE - LET ME BE YOUR SNAKE (2001, SELF RELEASED)
Alex 'Midnight' Moschini - vocals, bass
Massimo Bianchi - guitars
Andrea Roventini - drums
Background
Not sure whether I should 'pelt' these boys or praise them! On the one hand they have the audacity to release a seven track CD with five cover songs on it, plus have a most gorgeous honeychild draped over the CD cover in the company of a snake! On the other hand, their music is raw glam hard rock, which lacks for subtle graces in many places, but hey.. at least they're giving it a shot. From Italy, the guys have been involved with other small time Italian bands such as G.L.A.S, Charisma, Frame, and Harem. This time around it's frantic 'glammed and hammed' hard rock, not particularly sophisticated, but considering it's a demo I'll forgive them for that.
The Songs
They sound as if they're having fun on tracks such as the Kiss staple 'Rock n Roll All Nite', Cinderella's 'Gipsy Road', and the Slade hit 'Gudbuy 2 Jane'. Don't expect anything fancy on these, as the vocals are a bit of an acquired taste.. Italian at that! The other two covers are Led Zeppelin's 'Rock And Roll' ( a very different version too btw) and another Kiss/Paul Stanley effort 'Got To Choose'. The two Haze tracks ironically enough for a hard rock glam band, are ballads!
In Summary
I'd suggest to Alex and the boys.. cut the soft stuff and start playing some original rockers, capturing your obvious energy and enthusiasm! All in all, a bit rough around the edges, but at least now they've got something to work with and it's time to move on from there and progress. As it turns out, Haze ended up morphing into another band called G.L.A.S. You can read more about here at G-DAZE.
