Supared - 2003 Supared

Michael Kiske - vocals
Sandro Giampietro - guitars
Aldo Harms - bass
Jurgen Spiegel - drums

If you look through the personnel in Supared one name stands out a country mile - Michael Kiske. Supared is the new outfit fronted by the former Helloween singer, but that's as close to Helloween as you are going to get. Since his departure from the German superstars, Michael has tried different approaches to his music on the solo albums 'Instant Clarity' and 'Readiness To Sacrifice'. Supared is a continuation of that trend, and though it isn't a Michael Kiske solo album he did write most of the music.

The Songs
If you are a Michael Kiske fan then you probably should stop reading as what I have to say from this point on is fairly unflattering. To be frank Michael still has a good voice, but he doesn't utilise it to its fullest potential and the music it fronts is bland and anemic. Of the fourteen tracks on Supared's debut, perhaps two are worth writing about - opener 'Reconsider', a decent modern melodic rock track, and 'That's Why', a good acoustic ballad. For the most part though Supareds sound is so 'out-there' and ultra modern I can't begin to compare it to anything else at present. Michael and co have gone for something different, but it may be so different it could alienate present fans and hinder the attraction of new ones.

In Summary
While Helloween continue in their present form to create worthwhile releases such as 'Rabbit Don't Comes Easy', it is disappointing to see one of their former sons floundering in what has to said is a very, very mediocre release.
