I was a bit cranky last week, waiting for various things to happen with the website transition. God it's good to be back. Didn't Gary Glitter sing a song like that? dogrun

Here's an Irishman following in the tried and true footseps of Robert Hart, Russ Ballard and John Parr. smooth vocal style, immersed in that Los Angeles oriented sound, which is West Coast meets AOR. Having the big guns onboard here means that this album is not going to die a death. In fact, it's laid back, cool, and not a million miles away from the likes of early Toto or Bridge 2 Far.

The Songs
Paul has released a heap of albums in his time, but because of the connections on this one, he gets a long overdue mention on G-DAZE. You can't help but get enveloped in his music from the opening strains of 'Soul Child', a warm and melodic blanket. 'Blue World' starts off in a serious tone with lots of minor chords, but by the time the chorus arrives, the temperature rises. I love the atmospheric 'Nobody Knows', reminiscent of some of the best stuff from Mike And The Mechanics. Some of those keyboard lines are so lilting. I'm sure Mark Williamson would be interested in 'You And I' as it crosses swords with his material. Elsewhere, we get a Toto type workout called 'Solid Love' plus the smouldering piano infused ballad 'Love Goes On'. 'Dreams Will Come' is a hazy mid-west song which you could easily relax into a recliner chair with. For me, this album is a real grower, and I'm enjoying getting acquainted with it.

In Summary
Paul also gets a helping hand from the likes of Bonnie Raitt (she sings on the song 'Trick Or Treat'), and Billy Schlosser (of Billy And Lisa fame) in the percussion stakes. For those of you keen on any of the above named acts, you will do well to find a home with this album sitting pretty in your collection.

I still remember that when I heard it first a few years ago I actually quite liked it. Guess I need to spin it again soon.
