Background
Do I love these guys or what? Call it what you like .. Euro Pop, hi Tech AOR it's all of these rolled into one. I can see why these guys managed to get this debut all the way to the States. There are some fantastic moments on here, and a real mixture too! Now for those living in Denmark, you'll be probably be thinking .. 'what is this guy on about?' They're only Michael Learns To Rock, our local pop band. In my humble opinion, on this album they're more than just a local pop band. The production and delivery is top notch (as with all Danish albums I've noticed), while the vocal harmonies are great.

The Songs
Just listen to the opening brace of songs on offer. 'My Blue Angel' is killer hi-tech AOR, 'Looking At Love' is a lilting west coast flavoured song, while 'A Kiss In The Rain' is more hi-tech magic (listen to that chorus), not too far removed from the best that Robert Tepper, Judson Spence or Robbie Nevil can throw up. Most of the other songs are all quite memorable, you can hum along quite nicely to 'Messages', 'I Still Carry On', even the rather tacky 'African Queen'. The ballads on the album 'The Actor' and 'Crazy Dream' also meander along in melodic fashion.

In Summary
Well worth a listen if you've never heard them before. Since this debut, they've released a heap of other albums. Check out the Michael Learns To Rock web site shown above.

I really like these guys. No nonsense pop rock at its best. Wasn't there two different covers for the 'Colors' album?
