One of the most pristine AOR albums ever released in my humble opinion is this Scandi AOR effort from Sweden's Talk Of The Town. The immense sound on this album is quite captivating at times, and has some wondrous moments throughout. Everything you would ever want to hear or see on an AOR type album is probably captured on these songs, whether it be harmonious keyboard washes, pulsing bass (there's a lot of that on here!), or the magical voice of Thomas Vikstrom who does literally soar like an eagle at times. Soundwise there's a bit of all your favourite Swedish bands on parade here, like Europe, Treat, Alien, Easy Action et al. The comparison is unfortunate but undeniable, and really showed the rock world how good the Scandi scene was (and still is!!), though perhaps the stereotypical image of the blond rocker a la Joey Tempest or Tommy Nilsson held them back at times.

The Songs
If you've heard the album, then a run through the tracks is going to be a familiar exercise for you. Tracks like 'Free Like An Eagle' (unfortunately the video for this song is dopey!), 'Fever', the pompy 'Undercover Love' are an excellent way to start the album. Then there's the effortless and timeless ballad 'Sing To The World' which I reckon should have been the Song of Peace when the Berlin Wall came crashing down one year later, rather than that limp Scorpions effort. This one is just gorgeous. The pomp attack continues with another fantastic brace of songs.. 'Love The Look In Your Eyes', 'Feel My Heartbeat', and the rather nice 'Livin' For Lovin' and the album continues in the same vein right to the end.

In Summary
On the small GAR label, this album was one of the rarest slices of vinyl to track down, and you really had to know someone very well in Sweden to obtain a copy. Still rare but the advent of CDR's has seen this album get a fair digital hearing among the AOR aficionados in the CD format. They did release a follow up which never really saw the light of day until recently with the 'Reach For The Sky' album, but the lineup was slightly different with the music perhaps not reaching the same dizzying heights as it's predecessor. Vikstrom of course released a solo album 'If I Could Fly' while also doing a stint with Swedish doom merchants Candlemass, why I'm not sure. Thomas, I can only hope the money was good! Perhaps I should persuade Mr Kotsev of Brazen Abbot fame to pay you a bit more, and keep your heart and soul in melodic rock.

When talking top Scandie albums, I always completely forget to mention this one, which is criminal on my behalf & I should be punished severley!Definately up there with Treat, Fate, Dream Police, Bad Habit etc. 'Undercover Lover' and 'I Love The Look In Your Eyes' is definiion of all things 'Scandie are absolute killer tracks as are most of the others featured here.
