Background
There are a couple of familiar faces with this European outfit Affair. Belgian singer Peter De Wint, who had previously been with the bands Crossfire and Mystery, while Chris Lausmann has made appearances with German maestros Frontline and Bonfire. The other key to the jigsaw is the mainman behind this effort: Bobby Altvater, a superb guitarist and arranger, and owner of Munich's Sky Studios, where so many prodigious German bands have had their albums recorded. Affair is essentially Bobby's project. Affair, as a band/entity, had been in the works for a few years, long before 'Face To Face' was eventually released. The songs were produced during the early 90's with original singer Alex Hofer, but when he left, De Wint came in to re-record the vocals. This was in 1995. Japanese label AVEX came onboard with a deal later on during 1997, while a release in Europe was soon to follow. If you are a lover of German bands such as Roko and Axxis, then Affair are right up your alley.

The Songs
Highlights for me then: the up-tempo rockers 'Heart Of Rock n Roll' and 'Wish You Were Here' are a pair which stand out. I do like the opening intro to 'My Life' a keyboard dominated track, while the duo of 'Changes' and 'Free N Easy' have the accelerator stamped hard down to the floor. Lets just say beyond 'uptempo'. Altvater grinds away melodically on 'Fantasy Girl' in near Pretty Maids fashion, while he shows his subtle side with the ballad pairing of 'Love Never Dies' and 'Day By Day', as well as the smooth acoustic instrumental '4TXY'.

In Summary
There is talk of a new album from Affair according to reports and website info, but nothing has yet to materialise. If it is as good as 'Face To Face', then we should be in a for a treat. In fact, that new album turned out to be the 'No Substitute' affair (every pun intended) which was released in Oct 2002. Bobby has been involved with other projects as well, reviewed here at GLORY-DAZE.
