Background
The continued run on glam bands reactivating the scene in Sweden is a persistent one. Recently we've had a look at bands such as Dirty Passion, Pretty Wild, Danger Avenue, Cut Lips, Danger and now new additions to the Swedmetal roster: Innocent Rosie. Must be something in the springwater up there eh? These Varlsberg/Gothenberg residents breathed life into the newborn Rosie at the tail end of 2005. All the usual suspects in terms of reference points are contained within their musical backpack. For a relatively new band, they have toured all over Europe, and have even made an excursion to L.A, including appearances at the prestigious Whiskey A Go Go. Returning home to Sweden in August 2008, the IR boys hit the studio to present to us now.. 'Bad Habit Romance'. A twelve tale swagger of glam based explosive rock n roll.
The Songs
Unlike their bandname, there is nothing innocent to be found on 'Bad Habit Romance'. These boys deliver as if they were living in an era populated by the likes of Skid Row, Poison, Hanoi Rocks and Faster Pussycat! There's everything from the fire and ice of 'Bitter Cocktail' to the razor sharp attitude of 'Left Alone', complete with parental advisory lyrics.. lol! And in between, there's lots to enjoy. 'Knock Me Out' is one of their better tracks, containing the aggression of The Cult, whereas 'Animal' is as rabid as the title suggests. The interestingly titled 'Sextalkin' fuses glam with some bar room boogie and foot tapping piano, and on 'Don't Drag Me Down' it's more of the same with the harmonica being added to the mix. The boys take their foot off the accelerator on 'Shine, Shine, Shine', which has a very commercial southern rock flavor.
In Summary
'Bad Habit Romance' was released last month (Feb 09), and according to their MySpace page, the band have added a new guitarist 'Dixxi' to the lineup. Innocent Rosie have gigs lined up in Italy and back home in Sweden over the next few weeks, so get out and see them if you get a chance. Glam appears to be on the comeback trail - and with bands like Innocent Rosie on the rise, no doubt we'll be seeing more of them and their contemporaries.
